What’s your stance on using phones at concerts?
When it comes to K-Pop concerts, they are truly once-in-a-lifetime experiences. After the recent pandemic, things are slowly getting back to normal as idols travel the world and perform in front of both Korean and international fans.
BLACKPINK is no different, as they’ve recently embarked on their BORN PINK world tour, starting in Seoul, and are currently in America for the shows.
For many, concerts are such a memorable experience, and many want to capture as much as possible but also share it with others worldwide who might not be able to attend the show.
Yet, member Jennie has recently been gaining attention after “Calling out” BLINKs, who seem to be focused on capturing the show on their phones rather than the concert itself.
In Seoul, Jennie gained attention after scolding a fan who wasn’t enjoying the show but focused on filming her.
In Dallas, Jennie then called out fans because she couldn’t see their faces. She then shared that the group had traveled to see them, adding that she knew fans wanted to keep memories but that if they didn’t record it, there were other ways to see the group.
It would be really great if I could see everyone’s faces instead of their phones… We came all the way to Dallas to see you guys, and if you don’t upload it, I’m sure someone else will. And, if not, there are our music videos.
— Jennie
It seems as if Jennie has ongoing feelings about the issue, as she even brought it up during the recent Atlanta show on October 3.
Yet, during one part of the concert, while speaking to fans, Jennie indirectly “called out” BLINKs. While not asking fans to put their phones away, she explained, “But I feel like I’m seeing more phones than faces today. Just saying.”
Like the rest of the times from the shows, the comments were full of fans loving how direct Jennie was about the situation.
Yet, although many fans found it funny that Jennie had brought it up multiple times, others have raised concerns that it has taken away from the concert experience. While it is fair that fans want to capture memories, some have shared that Jennie constantly bringing up the issue might make it more serious.
After so long, BLACKPINK has returned to perform, and many have shared videos of how subdued the crowd seemed because they were trying to get stable videos. Others have shared images of just a sea of phones at the shows…

On a previous show in Atlanta, Jennie even praised fans when she didn’t see a sea of phones, adding, “I actually really love how you guys actually singing, dancing and not just on your phones.”
Although the fans paid to see the group, Jennie’s grievances might not be unreasonable as they want to perform to fans, not phones.
