The advice isn’t just for celebrities.
Although K-Pop idols seem to live glamorous lives that fans can be envious of, the reality of the K-Pop industry is far harsher. Celebrities of any sort are subject to constant scrutiny from the media and public, and idols especially have to fit into very specific expectations.
BLACKPINK‘s Jennie is one idol who has been continually praised and criticized. Many fans are vocal about the idol’s immense talents and kindhearted personality.
But many netizens also try to find ways to criticize her, like how Jennie revealed she’s often garnered criticism for simply being shy.
Nowadays, I realize I have to [say hello], otherwise it’s gonna come off wrong, so I’ve broken out of that shell.
— Jennie
Jennie’s group, BLACKPINK, also frequently receives compliments for their strong musical ability and powerful performances.
Although many netizens find ways to criticize the group for things like the long absences between their comebacks.
But despite it all, Jennie seems to have a strong mentality. In fact, when she’s talked about the criticism she’s received for being shy, she admitted that she uses it as motivation.
Part of her strong mentality comes from her love of music and her group. In a recent interview with ELLE, Jennie shared that she “[feels] the most powerful” when she’s with BLACKPINK, heralding her incredibly supportive members as some of her best “cheerleaders.”
And Jennie also admitted that she’d received a lot of “industry advice” over the years.
But recently, someone reminded her that “it’s okay to slow down and take [her] time” with all she does.
But recently, I’m gonna go with ‘it’s okay to slow down and take your time.’

Of course, this advice can be helpful for anyone who needs to remember that it’s normal and healthy to take care of yourself and spend time on things you want to be proud of.
Given all of the accomplishments BLACKPINK continues to achieve, hopefully Jennie will take her time and enjoy everything she does.
