There are some debates around the context.
EXO member Chen is receiving widespread appreciation from K-Pop fans for stating that he doesn’t drink Starbucks.
At a recent fan event, the idol was filmed stating his reluctance to buy from Starbucks. According to some fans, he followed it up by saying that he likes to brew his own coffee instead.
“I’m sorry I am not going to starbucks”
do you know how strong this line is?!

Chen said he doesn’t go to starbucks, he drinks coffee that he brews himself instead 🙂↕️ https://t.co/lWRQVQ1Mcy

Fans have interpreted this comment as his support for the call to boycott Starbucks in solidarity with Palestine. Many pointed out that since the boycott picked up pace in the K-Pop community, Chen has been consistently posting about getting his coffee from local sellers instead of the multi-billion-dollar chain.
I usually try not to read into ppls actions too much, but I can say this: Chen definitely used to drink a lot of starbucks and he goes to cafes a lot, but these days he only posts pics of himself at independent cafes and has given up on sb entirely. it def seems like solidarity🤷♀️ https://t.co/dDSkIwj7Na

Some fans, however, pointed out that he said it in a different context. A fan claimed that Chen said it while explaining why he won’t need a nickname to order Starbucks as he has stopped buying from the brand.
우리이제 종대한테 작명은 그만 부탁하기로해요…

However, people across different K-Pop fanbases have received Chen’s words extremely positively, pointing out that even if it were just a preference, he was promoting a more “moral” consumption choice.
For people in the comments, this might be a preference thing but one thing you need to know is he’s always been an advocate of human rights, actively engaging in charity work and supporting proper causes https://t.co/XgBKm3GXBF

it’s so easy for idols to make even the smallest of statements that show their stance and support. https://t.co/KwIrQgplOg

We need more idols to speak up like this and not just blindly promote genocidal brands! So proud of Exo and them using their platform like this! Hopefully this will inspire more idols to speak up and not be afraid. https://t.co/CukBdow86z

even when saying stuff like this is okay.. at lease his fans know that their idol is boycotting and why is it important to educate themselves on this matter some fandom can’t relate https://t.co/520IKjJcD8

Meanwhile, for the past few months, a large number of K-Pop fans have called for idols to disassociate themselves from the popular coffee chain in solidarity with Palestine. As a result of fan campaigns, multiple idols have also shown their tacit support for the boycott. You can read more about it here.
