One fellow SM Entertainment idol swayed his decision.
TVXQ’s Changmin was the latest guest on Eric Nam’s Daebak Show. During the episode, he opened up about his debut days, TVXQ’s 20th anniversary, and his friendships with fellow SM Entertainment artists.
TVXQ debuted as SM Entertainment’s first 2nd-gen boy group in 2003, and the members captivated the nation with their charm and talent.
Changmin discussed promoting alongside 3rd- and 4th-gen artists and how meeting up with fellow idols has been difficult.
Although it’s not easy to meet, Changmin does have friends within SM Entertainment. Eric asked him about his close friend group, naming Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, SHINee’s Minho, and NCT’s Doyoung.
Changmin agreed they were a close group and explained how they became friends. The TVXQ member befriended Kyuhyun after visiting him in the hospital, where he was recovering from injuries received in a serious car accident in 2007. Changmin stated that he was determined to become friends with Kyuhyun when the Super Junior member acted in an “arrogant” way by playing video games while Changmin was visiting him.
Changmin was curious why Kyuhyun acted that way, so the two same-age idols later went to grab drinks together. The TVXQ member realized that Kyuhyun was actually “such a nice guy and a good friend.”
He befriended Minho over their passionate love of soccer, and Doyoung’s kind treatment of his sunbaes naturally made Changmin want to be friends with him.
As Changmin and Eric discussed the TVXQ member’s friend group, Eric presented him with a challenging “what-if” scenario.
Eric asked Changmin what group he would choose between Super Junior and NCT if he had to re-debut. The plot twist was that Doyoung would be Super Junior’s oldest member in the made-up scenario, and Kyuhyun would be the leader of NCT.
Changmin hesitated before deciding he would hypothetically debut again in Super Junior with Doyoung as the oldest member.
He teasingly stated he would be scared to have Kyuhyun as a leader and felt that Doyoung would be a “sweet and gentle” older member.
Although Changmin was able to choose between the two options, it wasn’t easy for him to answer. He hilariously stated that it was the hardest question he had been asked in 23 years.
