Jeon Somi’s New Single Stirs Controversy: Is It Copying BLACKPINK?

Netizens think her company has no creativity.

Soloist Jeon Somi has announced her comeback.

She will release her summer special single, “Ice Cream,” on August 2. Yet, the reactions to the news are divided.

Loyal fans are eagerly awaiting Somi’s comeback. They also love the concept’s aesthetic, with some saying it gives Barbie vibes.

Yet others couldn’t help but feel that this single, along with the exact concept, had already been released.

Netizens pointed out the undeniable similarities to BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez‘s 2020 hit song “Ice Cream.” It has the same title and aesthetic. Fans just hope it won’t have the same sound.

While most fans couldn’t ignore the similarities, they still love Somi and are happy for the upcoming comeback.

Some also defended Somi, knowing it’s likely not her fault that it’s all so similar to BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s “Ice Cream.” BLACKPINK released “Ice Cream” while a group under YG Entertainment. Somi is under the company’s associate company, THE BLACK LABEL. She’s working with some of the same producers, such as Teddy. Many are blaming the company for “zero creativity.”

What do you think?
