2022 was filled with the comebacks of 2nd generation idols who continue to amaze their fans with their incredible longevity. These groups generally debuted between the early 2000s and the early 2010s, yet their performances and talents remain as fresh and outstanding as when they first appeared onstage. Here’s a list of 8 legendary 2nd generation K-Pop groups that made comebacks in 2022!
1. Super Junior
Super Junior showered their fans, nicknamed ELFs, with comebacks in 2022 with an album, The Road: Winter for Spring, and two extended plays, The Road: Keep on Going Vol. 1 and The Road: Celebration Vol. 2.
2. HIGHLIGHT (formerly BEAST)
HIGHLIGHT was known as the group BEAST before moving companies and rebranding in 2017. They released an album in 2022 called Daydream.
3. Girls’ Generation
Known as “The Nation’s Girl Group” in South Korea, Girls’ Generation returned after a five-year hiatus with their comeback album Forever 1, which also served to commemorate the group’s fifteenth anniversary.
4. Davichi
Perhaps best known for their numerous soundtrack appearances in Descendants Of The Sun, Crash Landing On You, Start-Up, and many others, the iconic pop duo Davichi released their seventh extended play titled Season Note.
5. TVXQ
TVXQ‘s Yunho and Changmin treated their Japanese fans with Epitaph, the group’s first Japanese mini-album, after releasing ten full-length Japanese albums from 2006 to 2019.
6. BIGBANG
The “Kings of K-pop” BIGBANG made their triumphant return in 2022 with their single “Still Life,” breaking the group’s four-year hiatus.
7. Epik High
Continuing strong more than two decades after their debut, hip-hop trio Epik High released the second part of their tenth studio album Epik High Is Here, in 2022.
8. KARA
Reuniting after their official disbandment in 2016, KARA released their eighth extended play, Move Again, and held their official comeback stage at the 2022 MAMA Awards.
Special Mention: 2NE1
Although they did not return with an official comeback, 2NE1 shocked the world with a surprise performance of their smash hit “I Am The Best” at the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
