LE SSERAFIM’s “ANTIFRAGILE” Lyrics Are One Of A Kind—Here’s Why, According To Kazuha And Yunjin

This is what they feel about it.

LE SSERAFIM‘s Yunjin and Kazuha recently discussed the latest album of the group, ANTIFRAGILE, with Weverse Magazine. One of the topics they talked about was how the title track of the same name contains lyrics that relate to each member.

First, Yunjin was told that her line in the song, “Stringed puppet, no thanks, with my song I’ll build my future,” sounds like she is making a strong declaration.

The lyrics to the title track off ANTIFRAGILE are great too. It sounds like you’re making a declaration when you sing your part that goes, ‘Stringed puppet, no thanks, with my song I’ll build my future.’

She agreed and added that it isn’t just her—all the members have lines that sound like they are making a declaration to the world. Knowing that, she hopes that listeners will pay attention to their one of a kind lyrics.

You might not notice when you’re just listening, but if you read along with the lyrics, it feels like everybody really is making a declaration when they sing their parts. It’s the same case for KAZUHA’s part, EUNCHAE’s part, my part, and CHAEWON and SAKURA’s parts, too. So I hope people pay special attention to the lyrics this time around.

Furthermore, Yunjin explained that the lyrics were actually written with their histories in mind. The core message they are trying to tell is that they will always do their best no matter how bad the situation gets.

They’re actually about us and the message we’re trying to convey is very concrete: that no matter what the world throws at us, we’ll find a way to persevere that works for us. So bring it on, world. I hope our ambition comes across well in the song.

Kazuha also felt the same. As a former ballerina who was skilled enough to study in the Dutch Royal school, she made a big sacrifice to pursue another career path. That’s why the line, “Don’t forget my pointe shoes I left behind,” perfectly described her.

As soon as we heard the part in ‘ANTIFRAGILE’ that goes, ‘Don’t forget my pointe shoes I left behind,’ the other members all said, ‘This is Zuha’s part.’ (laughs) I really liked the idea of there being a part to the choreography or an expression that was just for me.

Finally, like Yunjin, she noted that the song is about the members themselves. For example, lines like “Don’t underestimate the path I’ve walked,” describes Sakura and Chaewon well—the two members who had already made their debut before.

And it’s about us specifically. There’s lyrics about the other members, too, like, ‘Don’t underestimate the path I’ve walked.’ So I feel more of a sense of responsibility while singing. I liked how the line, ‘I’ll climb higher, top of the world I itched for‘ seemed to take the line, ‘climbing up, next one,’ from ‘FEARLESS,’ and the message of getting back up and doing even better, one step further.
