“What are they talking about?”
On May 6, EXO‘s Baekhyun celebrated his 32nd birthday! It’s his first birthday since leaving SM Entertainment to create his own label, INB100, and there were different events in Korea held to celebrate his special day.
One of these events was a birthday cafe, where fans could enjoy a special menu and get extra goodies like cupsleeves and exclusive photocards. However, one such cafe has caught some people’s attention for the allegedly too-high prices that have a few unfairly calling Baekhyun “greedy”.
The below photo was shared on an online forum, which shows the menu for the cafe. The menu includes items such as an iced americano, iced latte, and lemon strawberry tea, which range from 3,000 KRW to 7,500 KRW ($2.19 USD to $5.49 USD). For example, the americano is 5,000 KRW ($3.66 USD) while the latte is 5,500 KRW ($4.02 USD).
The original poster claims that these prices are higher than usual for a birthday event, and says that an americano, for example, should only cost around 2,000 KRW ($1.46 USD). They also state that Baekhyun will be getting all of the money that fans spend on these goods, making it seem like he chose the “high” prices himself so he could make the most profit from the event as he could.
But fans were quick to correct the OP. Not only do many people think that the prices are reasonable and comparable to other similar events, but they claim that while Baekhyun himself purchased the space for the cafe, he won’t be making anything off of the purchases of the menu items, but just on merchandise. The cafe itself will be profiting off of the sales, and they likely set the prices themselves.
Fans also brought up a fansign event that Baekhyun hosted, for which the tickets were pretty cheap to allow fans from all financial situations to attend, as an example that he’s not just doing things like this for money. Here’s what people are saying in defense of the EXO member.
Baekhyun definitely seems like the kind of idol that would never want to take advantage of his fans!
