TWICE recently made their comeback. It is the group’s first Korean comeback since all nine members renewed their contracts with JYP Entertainment. The group proved they are here to stay, going against the “seven-year curse” that K-Pop groups often face.
Yet, TWICE’s leader Jihyo shared some shocking information regarding the contract renewal in their interview with GRAMMY Magazine.
Based on the released article by GRAMMY Magazine, it sounded like the members themselves didn’t know they had all renewed their contracts until right before JYP Entertainment made the official announcement.
We didn’t realize that all members have renewed their contracts until right before the official announcement.
— Jihyo
ONCE (TWICE fans) were stunned by the statement considering that the members are so close. They would have expected them all to discuss such discussions together as a group.
i truly cannot comprehend twice not discussing contract renewals together like these are 9 of the nosiest women in the business and you’re telling me they didn’t think to ask each other what they plan to do regarding all of their futures? 😭😭

No wonder Sana was so excited that day, telling us to quickly wake up to check the news and posting a 9WICE pic on IG 🥹 pic.twitter.com/ib4C69KoHH

Now, Jihyo has personally clarified any confusion regarding her statement via Bubble.
Jihyo explained to ONCEs via Bubble that it was actually a mistranslation. She herself was reading articles and realized it.
I realized this while reading some articles [about us]. I think there has been a mistranslation!
I didn’t mean that we didn’t know about our contract renewals until the official announcement.
I meant that none of us really knew how the renewal would go until the contracts were actually drafted and we sat down to sign them. T-T I was trying to explain that it’s not at all too easy for everyone to be on the same page. It wasn’t necessarily guaranteed that we’d all want to renew—which is fine because it’s our lives! I wanted to emphasize that it was super important that we were able to make our own decisions. But I think the interview ended up being translated otherwise.
Anyway, I wanted to come by and clarify in case there are ONCEs out there who also read the articles.

Jihyo added that all in all, it “doesn’t matter” as long as the group is together as OT9. She’s a truly great leader.
But, yeah whatever! Doesn’t matter because we’re still TWICE, OT9. It’s not that big of a deal whether we knew or not!!!
— Jihyo
We are surely glad TWICE are all together forever and always!
